Hearts in Dexter remember 2012 tornado, left to imagine devastation and heartache in Oklahoma

DEXTER, Mich. (WXYZ) - While the heartache and devastation cannot compare to the tornado that reduced homes and schools in Oklahoma to pieces, it reminds many in the small town of Dexter just how thankful they are that not a single life was lost when a tornado touched down there.

"It was very moving. You just want to drive down there to help," said Bob Tocco whose house had to be rebuilt after the March 15, 2012 tornado that had Bob and his wife, Rachel, taking cover in their basement with their daughter, Charlotte, who was just six weeks old.

Dexter Fire Lt. Tim Burke was on duty that day and says it was the sense of community that brought strangers together to bring parts of Dexter back .

Tocco says a neighbor he had never met before took them in for a couple days when their house was unlivable. Another family then allowed them to live in their home while they were on vacation.

The tornado forced the Tocco's house to be partially rebuilt. The house next door to them was leveled and to this day, only the concrete foundation remains.
