Ann Arbor police say a man who reportedly called 911 saying he had strangled his wife is a former member of their department, who retired "in good standing" in 2004.

Pittsfield Township police are investigating the homicide at the Arbor Knoll Apartments that occurred around 11 a.m. on Sunday.

The identity of the victim has not been released. Police said the husband was arrested and taken into custody.

Neighbors we spoke with said they were shocked to hear something like this happened in this normally very quiet community located just south of Ann Arbor.

"This is very disturbing, there are a lot of students from U of M that live here as well as people who work at U of M. I cannot believe this. It's so shocking," one neighbor explained.

That same residents stated he moved into the Arbor Knoll Apartments only three months ago with his wife and said he plans to warn her to be extra cautious.

"You never know who you are living next to, this is unbelievable to hear. I want to tell her to watch her back and be careful," the man added.

Police have not released a motive, but are treating this homicide as a domestic dispute.
