YPSILANTI, Mich. (WXYZ) - A man has been charged with murder in connection with the death of a 1-year-old boy in Ypsilanti Township.
Michael James Curtiss, 34, was arraigned Thursday on charges of Felony Murder and 1st Degree Child Abuse.
According to the Washtenaw County Sehriff's Department, deputies responded to a home on Fall River road on reports of a child choking.
When they arrived, Curtiss was holding the lifeless body of 1-year-old Chase Miller. He was watching the child for the mother.
The child was rushed to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The cause of death was determined to be blunt force trauma.
Curtiss is being held in the Washtenaw County Jail without bond.
His preliminary exam is scheduled for November 6.
