Police say man stole ambulance from University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (WXYZ) - A 19-year-old Ann Arbor man is in police custody, accused of stealing a ambulance from the University of Michigan Hospital.

Police say another ambulance driver noticed the man driving away from the hospital in the stolen ambulance on Friday night at around 11:30 pm.

That driver radioed police when he noticed the suspect was not in uniform.

Police were able to track the stolen ambulance. A Washtenaw County Sheriff's Deputy pulled it over at Huron River Drive and Campus Drive. That's near the entrance to Washtenaw Community College.

The man was taken into custody and turned over to University of Michigan Police. Officers say he was waiting to be seen in the hospital's emergency room when he took the ambulance.

The incident is still under investigation. Police say they are working to determine if drugs or alcohol were involved in the incident.

Charges have not yet been filed in the case.
