School in Dexter to reopen Monday after tornado

DEXTER, Mich. (WXYZ) - Schools in Dexter are back open after many children in the district went through a tornado that ripped their neighborhood apart.

The superintendent says they are doing everything they can to help the children ease back into a normal school situation.

Counselors were on some of the buses during the morning commute to answer any questions about what happened and to help students who may have been seeing the destruction for the first time.

Counselors and teachers were also on hand to help children of all ages on their first day back.

Some children said they are looking forward to seeing their friends, but others said they are nervous about talking about what they went through when they were in the basements of their homes.

Valerie Potsos told 7 Action News she thought it would be good for her two sons, ages 8 and 14, to go back to school as they try to get back to some normalcy in their lives.
