PITTSFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WXYZ) - 28-year-old Kwame Hampton, the son of Inkster Mayor Hilliard Hampton, is locked up in Washtenaw County and facing life in prison for a number of charges stemming from two separate incidents this month.
In a 911 call obtained by Action News Monday. a frantic 23-year-old woman tells police on April 20 that a man was trying to abduct her.
"This guy came and told me to get in his car, he had a gun," the woman told dispatch.
The woman would later identify the man as Kwame Hampton.
This incident happened near Hawks and Packard in Pittsfield Township. Police say Kwame Hampton tried to abduct his ex-girlfriend as she walked out of her house in the middle of the afternoon.
"He came out of the car running, and I started to run back in my home," the woman told 911. "I screamed for my sister."
She ran, but he caught up to her according to a statement from Pittsfield Township investigators. After being threatened with the gun, the woman got into a red vehicle and Hampton started to drive away. When the car came to a stop, she tried to get out and he allegedly assaulted her but she was able to break free.
Prosecutors have charged Hampton with six felony counts and one misdemeanor stemming from both incidents. In the first case earlier this month on April 9, Hampton is accused of breaking into the woman's home through a window and sexually assaulting her.
Some of the charges include criminal sexual conduct, home invasion, domestic violence and unlawful imprisonment.
A phone call and email to Hampton's father were not returned today.
Kwame Hampton's attorney declined to comment when reached by phone.
Police in Westland tell Action News that Kwame Hampton is being investigated as a suspect in another case that also involves the ex-girlfriend.
Hampton is behind bars on a $350,000 bond total for both Pittsfield Township incidents.
