Substation fire knocks out power south of Ann Arbor

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (WXYZ) - Six thousand customers in the Ann Arbor area were without power for about an hour because of a fire at a substation.

The affected area is south of the city and included Briarwood Mall. Power has since been restored to about 85 percent of the area.

The outage twisted traffic into knots as it knocked out traffic signals during rush hour.

The power outage comes as temperatures in the area have hit 100 degrees.
