ANN ARBOR, Mich. (WXYZ) - Gay rights supporters gathered in Ann Arbor to celebrate the victory handed out by the U.S. Supreme Court.
The Jim Toy Community Center, which is a gay rights resource center, held the rally at Braun Court Wednesday afternoon.
Many gatherers said they never thought they'd see this day.
The high court ruled that that defenders of California's gay marriage ban did not have the right to appeal lower court rulings striking down the ban.
In Michigan, however, the rulings have little immediate effect since the state's ban on same-sex marriage still stands.
Organizers of the rally hope the rulings will pave the way for change in the state, but say they are currently celebrating what they believe is a defining moment for the nation.
