CHELSEA, Mich. (WXYZ) - A Chelsea, MI brother and sister were injured when the Ferris wheel cab they were riding in tipped, sending the duo plummeting to the ground below.
Natasha McElrath, 16, a standout soccer player at Chelsea High School, was reportedly trying to grab her 8-year-old brother, who was slipping out, when they both fell.
Both were taken to the hospital with serious injuries, but they are expected to be OK.
The accident happened shortly before 9 pm Thursday night at the Chelsea Community Fair.
The Ferris wheel was shut down while a state inspector looked over the ride. But it was deemed safe to be reopened at 1 pm Friday.
The fair president said mechanical failure had been ruled out, although no other explanation was given surrounding what happened.
However, the McElrath family told Action News at their Chelsea home, the accident might have been prevented had there been safety restraint bars inside the cabs.
