"The Brides Project" in Ann Arbor is a bridal boutique full of deeply discounted wedding dresses that were donated by brides or stores with extra stock.
Money raised from the sale of the dresses goes to benefit The Cancer Support Community of Greater Ann Arbor.
Monique Sluymers founded "The Brides Project" in Ann Arbor after hearing about the original project in Canada.
"At the time my dad had cancer and I wanted to do something meaningful," says Sluymers.
She teamed up with Barb Hiltz who is the executive director of the Cancer Support Community of Greater Ann Arbor.
Since it opened last year, the bridal boutique has raised around $70,000 and all of that money goes to support the non-profit which helps those affected by cancer.
The Brides Project is located at 2631 Plymouth Road in Ann Arbor. You can shop there by appointment only.
Space for the bridal boutique has been donated and its run by volunteers.
Olivia Kilbane heard about it and decided she'd give it a try. She's planning a July wedding and found her perfect dress at a great price.
"It's fantastic," says Kilbane.
She says it's great to know that her purchase is making her dream come true and helping others.
