ANN ARBOR, Mich. (WXYZ) - The University of Michigan Board of Regents has named Dr. Mark Schlissel as the school's next president.
Schlissel will take over for current U of M President Mary Sue Coleman, who announced last spring that she would be retiring at the end of her contract.
Coleman's contract ends in July. Schlissel's appointment was announced during a 10:00 am news conference at the Michigan Union.
Schlissel is currently Provost at Brown University. In that position he is the school's chief academic officer and the school's second highest ranking person. He has been in that position since July 1, 2011.
Prior to becoming Provost at Brown, Schlissel served as Dean of Biological Science in the College of Letters and Sciences at the University of California-Berkley.
