Vandals strike cemetery founded in 1864

YPSILANTI, Mich. (WXYZ) - "It's heartbreaking," said Tina Kalusha who works at the non-profit cemetery where vandals pushed over the headstones over dozens of graves.

It happened Sunday night at Highland Cemetery in Ypsilanti.

Dave DeLaura, who has been helping to care for the property for about ten years, tells 7 Action News: "To me a cemetery is a peaceful place".

DeLaura and other workers had to work quickly to return many of the headstones to their proper places so that a family coming to bury a loved one would not have to be subjected to the sight of disrespect created by the vandals.

Thankfully, we're told there was no permanent damage done to any of the headstones. But anyone with any information on possible suspects is urged to call Ypsilanti Police.
