ANN ARBOR, Mich. (WXYZ) - It’s the view State Police troopers had as they pursued a vehicle through the streets of Ann Arbor on April 22.
7 Action News obtained the exclusive video that ended with the suspects crashing at the intersection of East Liberty and Main Street.
It was a relatively short pursuit, approximately 40 seconds in duration, after troopers attempted to make a traffic stop near 5th and Washington.
A tip that the suspects were bringing “sizeable amounts” of drugs into the city and that one of them was a homicide suspect in Detroit prompted the police attention.
The suspects even drove up on city sidewalks in their effort to flee police. The dash cam video showed the troopers’ vehicle followed right behind them.
State Police defended their pursuit of the suspects that day. Their policy does not prevent them but troopers are urged to abandon pursuits rather than needlessly injure or kill innocent people, including their own members.
No one was injured during the incident last month. The suspects were apprehended and police found what’s believed to be crack, heroin and prescription pills in the car.
