DETROIT (WXYZ) - An 11-year-old girl was killed and two other children, ages 1 and 4 months, were injured in a crash Saturday night in Detroit.
Michigan State Police say a car was broken down on westbound I-96, near Mendota Avenue, when a semi-truck swerved to avoid the car. The truck couldn't avoid it completely and hit the left rear of the car.
The children were transported to Children's Hospital in Detroit, where the 11-year-old was pronounced dead, and the 1-year-old and 4-month-old were treated for injuries that police said were not life-threatening.
State Police say that the two toddlers were restrained in child seats, but the 11-year-old wasn't wearing a seatbelt. It appears alcohol was not a factor in the accident.
