7 mile stretch of I-96 in Livonia and Redford Township to close in early 2014

(WXYZ) - MDOT is warning drivers in western Wayne County that they can expect a massive disruption in early 2014 because of a full closure of a 7-mile stretch of I-96 from Newburgh to Telegraph.

The closure will come as MDOT completely rebuilds that section of freeway, which is located in Livonia and Redford Township.

The $150 million project will include full reconstruction of I-96, extensive repairs of 36 overpasses and replacement of freeway drainage and lighting.

Full details of the closure, including the exact timing and duration, are still being worked out.

MDOT has set up a website , as well as Twitter and Facebook accounts to keep the public up-to-date on the project.
