WESTLAND, Mich. (WXYZ) - A 76-year-old man has been charged with the murder of his 72-year-old wife. Marvin Jones was charged with first degree murder and felony firearm today in the murder of his wife Sandra.
Officers discovered Sandra in her bed shot, and after investigation, found that rounds had been fired into the walls and floors throughout the house.
No one knew anything was wrong inside the home on Melvin until the husband went and told a neighbor he killed his wife.
“She loved everybody. She wouldn’t hurt a fly,” said a man who only wanted to be identified as Karl.
Karl is a close friend of the couple and tells us the couple treated him like a son.
“She wouldn’t hurt nobody,” said Karl.
Karl said the woman was 72 years old. He said the husband is 76 years old and may have been confused at the time of the shooting.
“He had Alzheimer’s,” said Karl. When asked if he thought the older man was showing signs of breaking down, Karl replied, “Absolutely. 100 percent.”
Karl said the husband told him something eerie yesterday.
“He called me yesterday saying that something was going to happen that he was going to get a divorce or he was going to kill her,” said Karl.
Westland Police removed several guns from the house.
“We’re going to go back to the station and process the evidence and speak with the husband some more,” said Lt. Todd Adams with Westland Police.
The couple has lived in the neighborhood since the 1950s. The shooting has taken the block by surprise.
