Canton Police searching for suspects in burglary at Emagine Movie Theater

CANTON, Mich. (WXYZ) - Canton police are looking for two people who tried to pull off a daring and, for Canton, an unusual burglary early Monday morning.  It happened at the Emagine movie theater on Ford Road.

Sgt. Dale Waltz, spokesman for the Canton Police Department, tells 7 Action News that two suspects drove a van through the front entrance of the theater and proceeded to try to steal an automated teller machine (ATM) from the lobby.

“(It) looks like they were trying to shimmy and shake it and grab a hold of it and see how far they could get with just pulling on it,” said Waltz after being briefed by detectives who were reviewing surveillance video.  “When they were unsuccessful, they re-entered the van and then drove back out through the front lobby.”

Damage to the theater entrance was extensive. Theater managers called in a crew to remove the busted doors and glass and board up the entrance until new doors can be installed.

The theater cancelled early showings while workers cleaned up the lobby.  Emagine was back in business shortly after 12:00 noon, welcoming a steady flow of customers.

Police continue to investigate this case. So far, they have not made any arrests or identified any suspects.
