Compromise will allow Santorum to speak at Grosse Pointe South High School

GROSSE POINTE FARMS, Mich. (WXYZ) - The Grosse Pointe Public Schools System says a speech by former presidential candidate Rick Santorum is back on after a compromise was reached between administrators and the student club Young Americans for Freedom.

Grosse Pointe South's principal had canceled the speech on Monday after national representatives of the Young Americans for Freedom said that Santorum had never spoken at a high school before and that they would not provide an advance copy of his speech.

Under the compromise parents will be sent an in-school permission form that needs to be signed in order for their student to attend the speech. Staff members will also be given the opportunity to opt out of the speech.

Anyone who chooses not to participate will attend all of their regularly scheduled school day activities.

Representatives for Young Americans for Freedom say Santorum will be speaking on leadership and community service. Members of the student organization raised $18,000 to bring Santorum to the school.
