DEARBORN HEIGHTS, Mich. (WXYZ) - Dearborn Heights Police are searching for a home invader who smashed his way into a family's home this afternoon.
It happened in the 20000 block of Williamsburg, near Evergreen.
The intruder used a crowbar to smash the glass of the rear sliding glass door and then walked over the broken glass into the house where 21-year-old Khalil lives with his parents and younger siblings.
Khalil tells 7 Action News that he was asleep at the time and woke up when he heard the glass breaking.
He confronted the intruder in the hallway. Khalil says the intruder hit him and tried putting something like a t-shirt over his head.
The intruder then began saying he wanted the money, but Khalil said there wasn't any in the house.
Khalil feared his mother and little sister might still have been in the house so he calmly complied with the intruder when he forced him into the basement.
Once in the basement, Khalil says the intruder went straight to the rear of the washer and dryer, where he began looking for something.
When he didn't find what he was looking for, the man left.
The family says they know nothing about what the man was looking for. They say they have only lived in the house for about a year.
The intruder is described as an Arabic male in his early 20's, standing about 5'6" tall with a thin build. He was wearing all black and a beanie cap. He took off on foot.
Anyone with any information is urged to call Dearborn Heights Police at (313) 277-7414.
