A cemetery is picking up the pieces after someone broke in and vandalized the property.

Jim Toms and his family have owned the Northview cemetery in Dearborn since the 1800s.

He says he went to the cemetery Monday morning and saw nearly 40 headstones knocked down.

"I thought maybe it fell over, then I continued and there was another one and another one,” Toms says.

He believes someone jumped the fence and damaged as many as they could. Some of the headstones are worth $10,000.

On Wednesday he was still cleaning up the mess.

Toms says it’s a busy time for them, because Mother’s Day is just around the corner.

“I just hope somebody sees this or they saw them. Listen for other people bragging about it. We need to find out who did this," he says.

Dearborn police are investigating the break-in.
