(WXYZ) - Only our 7 Action News camera was rolling as police arrested a mother accused of driving drunk with her kids in the car.
It happened early Thursday morning in Wayne County.
Cpl. Keith Rachwal from the Wayne County Sheriff's Department is one of hundreds of law enforcement officers taking part in a drunk driving crackdown this holiday weekend.
It's paid for by a state grant.
During Wednesday night's patrols, Cpl. Rachwal pulled over six drivers. Some received minor traffic citations, but one driver is facing more serious charges.
Cpl. Rachwal says the woman was going 60 miles per hour in a 40 mile per hour zone. Her headlights were also off.
After pulling the car over, Cpl. Rachwal conducted a field sobriety test. He wasn't convinced that the woman was sober, so he gave her a breathalyzer. She blew a .126, which is higher than the legal limit of .08.
The woman had been driving with her two daughters in the car, a 15-year-old girl and a 7-year-old girl.
She had the children's grandmother pick them up at the scene.
The woman was arrested and taken to a Wayne County Sheriff's Department station.
Cpl. Rachwal says over the next few days, he will be on the lookout for swerving, speeding and drivers who are going too slow.
Police say alcohol-related traffic deaths and injuries peak during July and August.
