LIVONIA, Mich. (WXYZ) - "We're in shock, really. Just that somebody would run him over like that and just keep going," said Austin Ryan about the death of his older brother, Dennis.
Dennis Ryan, 64, was killed in Livonia Monday night by a hit and run driver.
It happened sometime between 8:00 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. at the intersection of Newburgh and Schoolcraft - the service drive for I-96.
Ryan had been visiting with his son in Livonia and was making the four-mile bike ride back home to Plymouth when he was struck.
Investigators believe Ryan may have been riding his bike on the sidewalk until he was approaching the construction zone, which would have forced him to move to the other side of the road.
Ryan was hit and killed in the intersection, and the driver kept going.
It wasn't until 9:30 p.m., when other motorists noticed Ryan on the road, that someone called 911 for him.
Ryan was later pronounced dead.
Police are now analyzing evidence recovered from the scene in hopes that it will help them locate the hit and run driver.
"For our family, we hope that you would come forward because Dennis was loved by a lot of people," said Austin Ryan. "We just want some answers."
Anyone with any information is urged to call Livonia Police at (734) 466-2470 or (734) 466-2680.
