BROWNTOWN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WXYZ) - Northbound I-75 has reopened at Huron River Drive following a fatal accident.
The accident happened shortly before 3:00 a.m. Police say both speed and alcohol appear to be factors in the crash.
Police say the driver of a 2014 Lincoln MKZ was traveling northbound when they struck the back of a tractor trailer. That impact caused the driver to lose control and hit another semi that was traveling in the center lane.
There were 3 men in the MKZ. The man in the front passenger seat was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene. He has been identified as 29-year-old Matthew Jones of Brownstown.
The driver and rear passenger were taken to Oakwood South Shore hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.
The driver has been identified as 26-year-old Sean Preston Jr. of Riverview. The other passenger has been identified as 29-year-old Jon Schultz of South Rockwood.
The freeway was shut down until 7:35 a.m. Traffic was backed up for miles in the area.
