HAMTRAMCK, Mich. (WXYZ) - A 21-year-old Hamtramck man is facing a long list of charges, including carjacking and rape, connected to a weekend incident involving four women.
Police saying Tonio David Dace carjacked a van with four women in it at around 2:25 a.m. on Saturday in the area of Joseph Campau and Jacob in Hamtramck.
Investigators say the 33-year-old owner of the van was able to get out and hide, but that Dace then took the van to the area of Harper and Van Dyke where he sexually assaulted the three other women.
Police say that after the rapes Dace demanded money, but when the women told him they had no cash with them he took them to a nearby BP gas station.
While inside the gas station withdrawing cash, one of the victims, a 30-year-old woman from Hamtramck, was able to indicate to the attendant that she needed help and that he should call the police.
The attendant hid the woman behind the counter and, police say, Dace left the station with the other two women, a 28-year-old and a 34-year-old who are both from Detroit.
Once they were gone, the attendant called Detroit police and officers from both DPD and Hamtramck responded to the station. While they were there, officers say Dace called the 30-year-old women on the phone and demanded money.
Dace was arrested a short time after the phone call when the van was stopped on westbound Harper east of Maxwell.
He has been charged with carjacking, three counts of kidnapping, three counts of 1st degree criminal sexual conduct, three counts of armed robbery and three counts of assault with intent to commit criminal sexual conduct.
