Harper Woods resident finds, shoots at intruder in basement Friday morning

HARPER WOODS, Mich. (WXYZ) - A Harper Woods resident came home Friday morning to find an intruder in the basement.

Police say the intruder who entered the home is near Poupard Elementary School is still on the loose. Harper Woods police are searching for the suspect.

At 5:35 a.m., the resident entered the home on Van Antwerp Street across from Poupard Elementary and was confronted by the intruder in the basement.

The resident fired a handgun at the intruder, and the suspect fled the home. The resident then contacted Harper Woods Police.

Police are looking for a black male with a green hoodie.

Officials say the school will open today as scheduled. The Harper Woods police will heavily monitor the area.
