DETROIT, Mich. (WXYZ) - A 7-year-old and his mother were held at gunpoint for several minutes while being robbed in their store Tuesday.
It happened on Wyoming in Detroit. Tiffany West said that they did not have any customers so she closed up early to clean.
Just before 2 p.m. she said a nice looking man came up to the door and and started asking about hairstyle prices.
Tiffany said she cracked open the door just a few inches to slide the man her business card, but he pushed through and then pulled out a gun.
"I didn't care what happened to me. I just wanted my son to be okay. And I didn't want my son to be around and I didn't want him to see that. I didn't want him to see that at all," said Tiffany.
The man told her it was a robbery and to take off all her jewelry. Then he aimed the gun at her 7-year-old, and yelled at him to get into the back office.
"At that point I threw my hands up and I said, we don't have anything, we don't have anything, just leave," said Tiffany.
"He told me to go in the back," said her son whose identify will not be revealed because he is a minor.
"I was afraid that he might've shot my baby. That was the scariest thing. That was the scariest thing for me," said Tiffany.
"And I went in the office and called 911," said her son. He did not get a chance to call police because the thief came to the back office.
"He was trying to call 911 but the guy was coming to the phone and I saw him put it down. My son, he did very well," said Tiffany. The man pointed the weapon at both of them and demanded that Tiffany hand over a brand new laptop and then he frisked her.
"He was a robber and tried to hurt us," said her 7-year-old.
The guy found a gun on Tiffany that she carried for protection and stole that too. She has a CCW license.
The man told her not to look at him and then walked out the door. When he did that he strolled right past a surveillance camera on a nearby store. The video shows the gunman wearing a turquoise blue shirt. He is at least 5'9 with a large build, is clean cut, and has thick hair with brushed waves. He held Tiffany and her son at gunpoint for seven minutes.
"At the end he hugged me and said mommy, why would someone want to rob us? I said baby, sometimes there is just bad people in this world," said Tiffany.
