ROMULUS, Mich. (WXYZ) - A police chase ended in a deadly crash on Beverly Street near Henry Ruff in Romulus.
An 18-year-old man was sitting in his car outside of a home in the overnight hours.
Romulus Police Chief John Leacher says an officer was doing routine patrols when he came across the man. The officer approached the man and asked him to get out of his vehicle. That's when the young man sped off in his car. He crashed a short distance away and was killed.
The 18-year-old had been parked out front of a home that had repeated calls from police. Chief Leacher says they don't believe the young man had anything to do with prior calls there.
Police are trying to understand what prompted the man to speed off.
Romulus Police have asked Michigan State Police to assist in handling the investigation.
