A disgruntled employee identified as 21-year-old Jacoby Hennings from Harper Woods shot and killed himself Friday morning at the plant.
A number of police agencies responded to the plant in what was first reported as an active shooting situation. The Woodhaven Deputy Police Chief said Hennings, a part-time temporary employee, came inside, a labor dispute ensued and Hennings pulled out a gun.
"Station 11, station 18, I have reports of an active shooter at the Ford Stamping Plant, can I get some units that can meet at the entrance of the driveway to assist our cars," is how the call from Woodhaven dispatch went out to officers, followed by, "Go to the Ford Stamping Plant at the security office...inside the UAW office..we're trying to get more information."
The audio shows the situation remained confused,"
"Active shooter - unknown on shots fired. No other information as of this time," can be heard on the recording.
"There are no shots fired, he's barricaded inside the UAW office, 2nd floor. Unknown on gun, he went into the back, security bolted out of the office," was the call when Hennings was located.
A short time later, the radio calls indicated the situation was over.
"Okay, one threat, threat is down. We're finishing clearing the building, but per the callers and witnesses, he is the only threat," can be heard on the recording, "The scene is secure, they have one suspect down, victim of a gunshot wound."
