Taylor, Mich (WXYZ) - A lightning strike during a late afternoon storm may have started a fire that damaged an apartment building in Taylor.
Residents of the building in the Taylor Woods apartment complex told Action News they heard a loud boom shortly after 5 p.m. Tuesday. A short time later, Kimberly Tarpin, who lives in the building, saw smoke billowing from the roof. She went door-to-door to alert other residents to make sure everyone got out of the building safely.
Taylor Fire Department Battalion Chief Glenn Ross said the fire was contained to one second-floor unit. Residents were not home at the time. No one was injured but other apartments in the eight-unit building did suffer smoke and water damage.
Fire investigators will work to determine the cause of the fire.
