PROSECUTOR: Bob Bashara's lust for mistress, bondage & dominance motivated wife's murder

DETROIT (WXYZ) - The day before Jane Bashara was murdered, prosecutors say her husband, Bob Bashara, phoned his handyman, Joseph Gentz, 23 times. Prosecutors said there were nearly 500 calls between the two men in the months leading up to the killing.

During a hearing Monday, prosecutors suggested that during many of those calls Bashara gained Gentz's loyalty and talked about different ways to kill Jane.

Bashara reported his wife missing the night of January 24, 2012. Her body was found the next day in the backseat of her Mercedes. However, the first three phone calls Bashara made that morning were to Gentz.

Bashara's fourth call was to his mistress, according to prosecutors.

In Monday's hearing before 36th District Court Judge Kenneth King, Wayne County Assistant Prosecutor Lisa Lindsey pushed for the admission of evidence to Gentz's state of mind during the time investigators say Bashara was pushing him to commit the murder.

Judge King said he would allow that evidence, but when it comes to the prosecutor's motion to admit statements of any co-conspirators, King said he would make a decision on those statements at a later date.

Prosecutors are also ready to reveal details of Bob Bashara's secret sex life that they say includes bondage, dominance and sadomasochism (BDSM), telling the judge that secret lifestyle was part of Bashara's motive for murdering his wife.

Bashara has been linked to multiple sexual relationships outside of his marriage.

While Gentz believed he was going to be paid $5,000 for killing Jane, prosecutors say Gentz was also scared of Bob Bashara and intimidated into carrying out the crime.

In a text message Gentz sent to a friend about six weeks before the murder, he wrote, "When you get up I really need to talk about something. If I know something about someone about to do someone in, where do I go? I have to watch my (expletive). Please call me. I do not want to die."
