Ficano faces crowded field in Wayne County race

DETROIT (WXYZ) - As of Monday, there are five men running for Wayne County executive.

The latest to join the race is former Detroit Police Chief and Wayne County Sheriff Warren Evans. He filed one day before the deadline and joins William Wild, mayor of Westland, state rep and son of former Detroit mayor Jerome Cavanaugh, Phil Cavanaugh, and current Wayne County Commissioner Kevin McNamara.

Ficano joins the list officially announcing his re-election on Monday.

Ficano, CEO since 2003, touts Cobo Hall improvements, keeping the auto show in Detroit and helping bring back the Big Three through tax incentives as part of his success. But he’s had a lot of scandals too. Like the jail-- $100 million in construction overuns he calls a mistake, county employees taking money and an FBI corruption probe.

But, Bob ran anyway, saying he has nothing to hide.

But is there a candidate left to challenge Ficano and the men currently in the race? No one has gained key endorsements yet.
