DETROIT (WXYZ) - Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano has concede the Democratic Primary to Warren Evans.
The concession was announced in a news release, saying Ficano had congratulated Evans in a phone call early Wednesday morning.
Ficano finished fifth in the racing, only receiving 6% of the vote.
Evans ran away with the race, finishing with 44% of the vote. The candidate with the second highest vote total was Westland Mayor William Wild, who finished with 26% of the vote.
Ficano has released the following statement about the race:
I’ve appreciated the support of the citizens so many times over the years, and last night just didn’t go our way. I truly appreciate the people who stuck with us in the face of adversity. We’ve got a job to do through the end of the year and certainly we will be cooperative during the transition period after the election in November.
As for me, I’ll take some time to think about the future, but whatever I do, I will always be a cheerleader for Wayne County, and telling folks about what a great place it is to invest, work and raise a family.
