WYANDOTTE, Mich. (WXYZ) - The Marine Corps celebrated its 237 th birthday today, but many took time to remember those who no longer stand with them.
In a rare opportunity, the Marine Corps League in Wyandotte opened its doors to the public. The non-profit is usually exclusive to Marines, but the birthday celebration is one of the biggest fundraisers for the organization.
"We are Marines helping Marines," said Ron Zamensky, a former Marine. "When Marines come back from active duty and they need help, we're here to help them."
On Saturday the building was packed with Marines and supporters who reminisced about their brotherhood and honored those who were no longer with them.
"This is also to honor our fallen soldiers, our MIA and POW," said Zamensky after singing the Marine Hymn.
The event was being held at 1323 Eureka in Wyandotte. Supporters could get in by paying a $7 donation.
