VIDEO: Did Lincoln Park cops cross the line into police brutality in festival arrest?

LINCOLN PARK (WXYZ) - Lincoln Park Police Chief Brian Hawk says his department has launched an internal investigation into allegations that two of his officers assaulted and wrongfully arrested a 23-year-old man during a weekend festival.

Rodney Rhodes shot the video of his friend's arrest that is now at the center of the investigation.

Rhodes and his friend Ashley say their friend, John, wasn't doing anything wrong when police grabbed him from behind and threw him to the ground.

In addition to the video, that is now going viral, Rhodes also took photos of John's injuries just after he was released from police custody - about three hours after his arrest.

We're told John, whose last name we are withholding, was charged with resisting arrested and assault on a police officer.

Chief Hawk says large crowds forced his officers to close the festival down earlier than expected.

In the video, officers appear to be directing festival-goers to an exit when they encountered John and his friends.

Lincoln Park Police say John has no prior arrests with their department.

We're told John's parents are considering legal action against the city of Lincoln Park.

Chief Hawk says he has seen the video, but declined to comment on it.
