Wayne County Medical Examiner's office holding event to help families identify missing members

DETROIT (WXYZ) - A special event has been scheduled at the Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office that is designed to identify unidentified bodies that are being held at the facility.

Called Identify the Missing, the event is being held by Michigan State Police, the Detroit Police Department, the medical examiner's office and The National Missing and Unidentified Persons System at the University of North Texas.

It will be held on Thursday, June 26 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Families trying to locate a missing person are asked to bring at least two biological donors for DNA, police reports, photos, dental records and X-rays of their missing loved ones with them.

Previous events have helped identify 26 people, 16 of whom were identified by DNA matches provided by family members.
