WXYZ confronts party store displaying porn for sale where kids can see it

Northville, Michigan (WXYZ) - When Kristin Strobel walked into the Six and Park Party Store in Northville to buy a snack for her 7-year-old daughter, she didn't expect to see porn next to the soda.

"My daughter was walking right behind me, and I told her go back the other way," said Strobel.

She contacted 7 Action News asking us to help her get answers as to why this is allowed on display.  We went to the store.

When we got there the owner wasn't there, but we could see what concerned the mom who called us.  There were numerous graphic magazines and videos on shelves.  Some were partially covered, but explicit images remained out in the open.

We found Michigan laws that say you can't have images of sex acts on display where minors can see them.  Pornography has to be in a restricted area. If magazines are out, the covers have to be 2/3 covered.  Some were partially covered, but not all appeared to be covered enough.

When 7 Action News called the owner, he said only the titles of magazines were visible in the store.  We told him we had seen with our own eyes that wasn't true.

He then promised to cover them up.  After a short time he called us back and said he wanted to remove the materials from his store entirely.

The mom who called 7 Action News about the situation says she is glad to hear that other kids won't risk being exposed to such graphic images.
