Retired deputy, military veteran stabbed in Warren

(WXYZ) -  A couple of troubled teens are behind bars after trying to rob a retired deputy who is also a veteran.

The incident happened around 3 p.m. at a home on Hughes Street in Warren. As the retired deputy and his wife had returned home, they stumbled onto two young men standing inside their house.

"He's a retired law enforcement officer, military guy and a great guy," said Fred Saffold, who is a friend of the homeowner. "I'm saddened to hear he was victimized today."

During the altercation, the retired deputy grabbed one of the teens and the other stabbed him. The retired deputy then fired a shot at one of them but missed. The two were arrested by Warren Police moments later.

The man was rushed to a nearby hospital with a stab wound to the chest. His injuries are non-life threatening.

The teens are in custody and it's unknown what charges they will face.
