Roseville school board members understand why protesters are calling for the resignation of vice-president Alfredo Franceseconi after posting racist Facebook posts against Muslims and African Americans.

But they admit there is nothing they can do to force him to step down.

"If it's their own computer, we can't do anything about that," said board president Theresa Genest.

Franceseconi is under fire after posting a meme with a picture of President-Elect Donald J. Trump.

"No I'm not going to kill gays, make slavery legal and take away women's rights. I'm not Muslim," it says.

Another post shows African Americans rioting in the streets over aggressive policing.

"Want to stop riots? Play the national anthem. They'll all sit down."

Franceseconi attended Monday night's board meeting, but refused to comment.

"I'm not going to say a word," he said.

While protesters and some attendees of Monday night's meeting called for Franceseconi to step down, not one board member publicly called for his resignation nor did they condemn the remarks during the meeting.

"We thought we'd handle it among ourselves," Genest said.
