(WXYZ) - If you're going off the grid this summer, you don't necessarily have to unplug. In fact gadgets can make your summer camping trip easier and a lot more fun.
Here are a couple of my favorites:
Add water and boil; that's all it takes to make dinner and charge your devices in the wilderness. The Power Pot weighs in at 12 oz. and works with any heat source to power up your phone, camera, head lamp. If it has a USB plug, The Power Pot can give it life.
Using a UV lamp, SteriPen will purify a liter of any water source in just 90 seconds. Push the button and stir. When the blue light turn green you're good to go. Pop on the cap and the SteriPen doubles as a flashlight.
Whether you're dodging rapids or dancing in the rain, your summer soundtrack is safe with the iSplash Floating Speaker. It connects to your Bluetooth-enabled playlist (like your iPhone) up to 30 feet away and runs on just a handful of AA batteries.
It's solar powered, crank powered and does everything short of setting up your tent. The Eton Scorpion is a flashlight, radio, USB cell phone charger and of course, bottle opener. In addition to AM and FM frequencies this all-terrain and splash-proof device also receives seven NOAA channels to keep you informed of any approaching storms.
If you can't find the source of the smell at your campground it might be you. But with the Nemo Helio Pressure Shower you won't have to worry about suffocating your tent-mate with your stench. While most camping showers hang from a tree and drip down, the NHPS sits on the ground and uses a foot pump to provide five to seven minutes of steady water pressure for you, the dishes or the dog.
Camping or coffee? With the Flip-N-Drip you don't have to choose. Heat water over your campfire in the stainless steel carafe, twist on the filter and drinking mug then flip! When it's done dripping (about three minutes) your insulated cup is filled with your favorite caffeinated beverage.
Winding for one minute lights the way for 20 more. This ultra-bright white LED light will have you navigate your way to the commode or campfire. Detach the light to use as a hand torch or keep it on your head, either way no batteries are required.
