Seniors applaud Detroit Police arrests of "serial vandals"

DETROIT (WXYZ) - "You're not welcome here with this," says Detroit Police Chief James Craig to anyone vandalizing parts of the city.

On Monday, Chief Craig stood in front of a west side building recently defaced with spray paint to talk about five men being called "serial vandals."

The men were recently arrested and all five have now been charged with felony Malicious Destruction of Property, according to police.

"They are members of a graffiti gang," said Detroit Police Sergeant Rebecca McKay.

While two of the suspects are from Detroit, the other three are from Southgate, Lincoln Park and Romulus.

Several seniors who have lived in the area of Livernois Avenue and Burlingame Street for decades applauded Chief Craig and his investigators as they gave reporters details of the recent arrests.

"I would have them come back and repaint the entire building," said Willie Mae Pope who has lived in the neighborhood since 1957.
