A manhunt is underway on Detroit's southwest side after shots were fired at police officers.

Detroit police say that at 12:35 a.m. officers were patrolling the area of Chamberlain and Elsmere when they came across a man who fired shots at them. The officers returned fire and the suspect ran off.

No officers were injured and officials don't believe the suspect was hit.

Police quickly set up a perimeter and searched the area with the assistance of police canine and the Michigan State Police helicopter. Additional officers were called to scene due to a large unruly crowd.

Officers have not been able to locate the suspect.
