Social media campaign sets up comeback for Hostess, Twinkie fans excited

(WXYZ) - The beloved Hostess products we once thought were lost are now making their way back to store shelves.

Hostess is planning a comeback with a fun social media campaign leading the way. 

The company is calling it the "sweetest comeback in the history of ever." 

In November of last year, Hostess filed for bankruptcy. Twinkie lovers thought that this was the end of the snack cake era.

But the company was bought and Hostess started ramping up excitement online for the treats to return to shelves this Monday.

Their website currently features a real-time countdown until their re-launch.

They're also doing a #cakeface campaign where people are  sending in pictures and videos of themselves via Vine or Instagram with their best cake face. 

There are some pretty funny photos and videos in their collection so far.

They've also ramped up their presence on Facebook—with more than 439,000 fans, Hostess has been updating frequently with creative and witty posts. 

People on Twitter are also praising the return of the snack cakes.

Rob Pritchett @rspritchett writes: "In 5 days Twinkies will be back and my craving for a Twinkie will end! Don't judge."

 ‏Alan @alanatpresent also writes: "We survived the great Twinkie drought of 2013. #prepared" with a photo attached of a Twinkie.

And once the Twinkie comes back, they'll have more staying power. The spongy yellow cakes will now have a shelf life nearly 3 weeks longer than their older versions, according to the Associated Press.

If you're curious, that means they will last 45 days.
