A woman called 911 after finding two toddlers wandering alone wearing only shirts and diapers in a Southfield neighborhood.

Ticie Winans told Action News she followed them to a house in the 21000 block of Westover Avenue. She said the older boy, who appeared to be around 1 years old, answered her in broken sentences that their dad was inside the house sleeping. Winans said she knocked on the door repeatedly, and when there was no answer, she opened the unlocked door to find deplorable conditions inside.

“Pee on the floor, shoes, they weren’t in a good condition," Winans said.

"I could tell that the kids were eating cheese off the floor and they were just in need of love and care," Winans said.

She took the boys to a house down the street to wait for Southfield police, who eventually took both children from the home.

They have since been turned over to the custody of their mother by Child Protective Services.
