State Police Dog Retiring

A State Police K-9 is Leaving the Force

OAK PARK, MICH (WXYZ) - After 7 years, a Michigan State Police Dog is hanging up his leash and retiring.

Known as Striker, the K-9 is a purebred German Shepherd originally from Hungary. He's been with the MSP since January of 2005.

He's been assigned to the Metro North Post in Oak Park throughout most of his career.

Striker is best known for his abilities to detect explosives. But, he has also performed general patrol duties, as well.

During his career, Striker enjoyed many top sporting assignments such as the  Super Bowl, a couple of World Series, and of course the Pistons, Red Wings, and the Detroit Lions games.

He's even had the opportunity to be among those assigned to protecting visiting dignitaries including the President of the United States.

Striker was always great with kids. Often times assigned to schools, Boy and Girl Scout meetings, and churches.

He was honored with a proclamation earlier this week by the Auburn Hills City Council for his dedication to the citizens.

Now retired, he'll join a family of 3 other dogs.
