(WXYZ) - 7 Action News has learned that the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals in Cincinnati has set an August 6th date to hear oral arguments in the case challenging Michigan's ban on same sex marriage.
A federal judge struck down the ban in March. The decision led to more than 300 marriage licenses being issued for Michigan couples before the court issued a stay on U.S. District Judge Bernard Friedman's ruling.
The case was brought by local couple Jayne Rowse and April DeBoer.
The appeal will be heard by a three judge panel. Similar appeals from cases in Kentucky, Ohio and Tennessee are also up for consideration.
