DETROIT (AP) - The Belle Isle Park Advisory Committee is expected during its first meeting to receive an overview of the island's lease agreement between the city of Detroit and state Department of Natural Resources.
Committee members also will review a short-term improvement plan for the park Thursday morning at the Detroit Yacht Club.
The committee will advise the state on implementation of improvements, master planning and public safety for the park.
The state is taking over Belle Isle under the lease imposed by Detroit Emergency Manager Kevyn Orr. The move is expected to save the city between $4 million and $6 million a year. Starting Feb. 10, there will be a new $11-per-car annual fee to visit.
Detroit retains ownership of Belle Isle.
