DETROIT (AP) - A Detroit police officer who admits he mistakenly killed a 7-year-old girl during a raid is returning to court, five weeks after a jury couldn't reach a verdict in his trial.
Wayne County Judge Cynthia Gray Hathaway is expected to discuss the next steps in the case Thursday, including another trial.
Joseph Weekley is charged with involuntary manslaughter in the death of Aiyana Stanley-Jones. His gun went off after he and other officers stormed a Detroit home to arrest a murder suspect in 2010.
Aiyana was shot in the head while on a couch. Weekley says he accidentally pulled the trigger when Aiyana's grandmother grabbed his gun. Mertilla Jones denies any interference.
The raid was recorded for a cable TV show, "The First 48."
