DETROIT (AP) - A 51-year-old Detroit man has been arrested and charged in the theft of copper wires from light posts along freeways.
State police Lt. Mike Shaw says Friday in a release that Robert Doyle was arrested about 1 a.m. Saturday.
The state police and Michigan Department of Transportation control room operators have been investigating ongoing thefts of wiring from freeway light fixtures across the Detroit area. Such thefts have knocked out power to large swaths of freeway and traffic cameras in Detroit.
Doyle was arraigned Wednesday on possession of burglar's tools, malicious destruction of property and other charges.
A preliminary examination is scheduled for Sept. 3.
