Michigan senator working on bill to raise speed limits in some communities

(WXYZ) - How would you like to cruise down a Michigan freeway at 80 miles per hour... LEGALLY?

One Michigan senator has a bill in the works that could raise some speed limits in Michigan.

State Senator Rick Jones wants to require communities to follow recommendations of speed studies conducted by the Michigan State Police.

The senator's office says speed studies recommend a speed at which most people drive safely.

The bill aims to raise speeds that are artificially low in some communities.

One Michigan freeway that could see a speed limit higher than 70 mph is I-75 in the Upper Peninsula.

It could take another month or so before there is a draft of the bill.
