PONTIAC, Mich., (WXYZ) - An unemployed software programmer who fled to his native India after killing his wife and two children returns to a Pontiac courtroom.
Lakshminivasa Nerusu will be sentenced Thursday in Oakland County Circuit Court to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
A jury found Nerusu guilty last month of first-degree murder in the slayings of 37-year-old Jayalakshmi Nerusu, their 14-year-old daughter Tejasvi and 12-year-old son Siva.
Jayalakshmi Nerusu was stabbed 59 times on Oct. 13, 2008 in the couple's Novi home. The throats of their children were slashed when they arrived home from school. Police found the bodies two weeks later.
The 46-year-old Lakshminivasa Nerusu fled to India the day after the killings but was arrested and extradited in 2013.
Authorities said domestic problems preceded the deaths.
